As already told in our news concerning this topic, RMG had the great pleasure of sponsoring Icaro Onlus at the Italian Paralympic Championships on 1st and 2nd October 2022 in Brescia.

Just in case you should not know, Icaro Onlus is a non-profit sports organisation that puts effort into involving the disabled in many sports. The aim of the organisation is to create opportunities for interaction in which these people can put themselves out there and find awareness of their abilities.

The event outcome honoured the organisation’s commitment to supporting its athletes. Suffice it to say that it got on the podium in the men OVERALL ranking, in the women OVERALL and women PROMOTIONAL ranking while missing by a hair the third place in the men PROMOTIONAL ranking.

Last but not least, the great satisfaction thanks to the large attendance and the appeal of this sporting event, during which were set four new Italian records. With a high social value and a rich activity programm, this event also involved 20 children in participating in the promotional challenge of FISPES (i.e. Italian Federation of Paralympic and Experimental Sports) and, thanks to 21 Grammi restaurant (lit. 21 Grams), many people with Down syndrome in preparing and serving the food to participating athletes, all staff, and volunteers.

One of the event organisers narrates its success:152 athletes, 20 children – an enrolment record – for the promotional challenge of FISPES, 27 teams from all over Italy. A successful event, such that the judges and the President of FISPES complimented while proposing to organise the absolute competitions in July 2023. The location also did its part since there are not usually such good rinks and facilities for the Paralympics. Furthermore, the cooperation between the Volunteer Organisations, the University, and the inclusive project for the lunch service - organised with 21 Grammi at Spazio Pampuri - was great. Positive was also the feedback concerning the offered services, among which free underground tickets for athletes and their companions and the shuttle services organised by Icaro Onlus from/to the airport

Due to its positive effect on the community, thus this sporting event was a source of satisfaction for both the participants, the organisers, and the companies which sponsored it.

As we often state in our news, within RMG we give great importance to company environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Therefore, to explain what creating social value means for us, we think it is significant to report the testimony of an athlete who took part in the Italian Paralympic Championships:

I believe that such an event brings together different people. It is an opportunity to show others another world that is different from theirs and to teach them that it is possible to practice sports despite a disability. I also liked participating since there is no envy in these events, and it is possible to exchange opinions and experiences. There is plenty of solidarity, even though people often do not know each other. Through sports Icaro allows me to meet many people with different disabilities and stories. It is also pleasant to see the passion of each volunteer in the organisation.

RG

We think that the sponsorship of this kind of event and project is the duty of every company since it could be a chance to leave a positive mark on the community.
