Export and Preferential origin of Goods

It is impossible to ignore a crucial topic such as the Preferential Origin of goods while talking about international trade. Therefore, we would like to briefly introduce it from the point of view of the exporter.

How to determine the European origin of products

As we have previously explained, tracing the European origin of products is not always easy. The exporter must pay attention to this topic since a superficial check of origin requirements could lead to severe mistakes when custom declaring, with ensuing consequences.

What should we exporters do to proceed in the correctly?

First, it is essential to verify any treaty which might interest us. Then, it is necessary to reach out to our suppliers:

• To verify if the used materials have a European origin and if our products meet the requirements to state their European origin as well;
• When possible, to even get a supplier’s declaration of origin which can be used to declare the origin at customs.

As regards copper alloys, such as bronze, aluminium bronze, and special brass, which represent the core business of RMG, the law in force provides that those alloys must be produced starting from “copper scrap”.

Therefore, we can:

• Guarantee the European origin of our products;
• Issue a proper declaration to our customers, which is necessary to benefit from the preferential treatment;
• Get the certificates at customs.

The Supplier’s Declaration

With regards to Preferential Origin, there are two types of Supplier’s declaration that the customer can request:

1. The supplier’s declaration referring to a single supply;
2. The Long-term supplier’s declaration, valid for up to 2 years.
