SMM HAMBURG 2018: EXHIBITION END REPORT

SMM 2018, the international trade fair of the maritime industry, took place also this year in Hamburg. The city harbour is the biggest one in Germany and the second most important one in the European Union.

If compared to the previous exhibition years, the 2018 edition took place in a wider expositive area, which included a total amount of 13 halls. The fair counted the participation of 2.289 exhibitors coming from 69 different nations and 50.000 visitors from more than 120 countries.

The visitors had the chance to get in touch with the innovations and the new products of the naval market, which are more and more oriented towards the technological revolution, the digitalisation and the environment protection.
This was possible thanks to technological demonstrations of the products, which were organized by the exhibitors, but also through the division of the halls into thematic routes (the digital, the green, the security, the job routes) and through conferences hold during the fair.

The intense conferences scheduling was focused not only on the key themes of 2018 edition (digitalisation and environment protection), but also on ocean research and on security and defence:

Also this time, the SMM represented an important opportunity. In fact, it promoted and supported the meeting between all the representatives of the entire naval industry supply chain, starting from raw materials suppliers to the final customers.

Furthermore, it enhanced the chance to build new business collaborations, which are based more and more on products oriented to the new environmental regulations. This trend shows not only a recovery of the naval branch from the 2016 crisis, but also its evolution.

This exhibition was successful also for R.M.G. Raffineria Metalli Guizzi. We found many new contacts between the exhibitors and the visitors, which were both interested in copper-based alloys. They showed interest especially for different bronze and aluminium bronze alloys: the highest number of requests for information was for C95800, which is one of the most used alloy for naval applications.

Moreover, this event was important for our company not only to find new contacts, but also to strengthen the already existing commercial collaborations.
